ST. NICHOLAS RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL CHOIR.

The official Choir of Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral was founded by Kyrill Andreev. George Kalfov (father of our present treasurer) took his place in 1965, after which there was a very talented musician Aleksandr Eppler. Rdr. Aleksandr Eppler was appointed to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral in 1988 after three years of study at Holy Trinity Monastery. Our Choir was directed by A.I. Eppler until 2005. Present Choir Conductor is Ekaterina Vargataya.

Our choir is like a functional body, it changes all the time. Very often we don’t have required voices, enough musical training and patience in its routine life. Our people are volunteering their time there, so there are just one or two voices during the weekday services and bigger choir on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

As Choir Regent Ekaterina Vargataya remarks, - "I would say that the biggest plus in our choir is that people go there and sing from their heart, they are doing it for the Church, which makes it’s singing more prayerful and unique."

If you wish to join our choir, you have to have at least a little knowledge in music, Church Slovanic, love to attend services, be patient towards other people and be constant.

"There is my little wish to our choir", - continues Choir Regent Ekaterina Vargataya, - "Please don’t forget that we should try to be like Angels in our singing, to forgive those who are weaker, to try hard not to speak during services, to pray while we are in the choir and to go to the confession and receive Holy Communion more often".
